Day 1

Introduction to Track and Field

8:30 - 9:30 AM: Registration and Welcome (All campers in Theater)
  • Start the welcome address at 9:15am
  • Introduction of coaches and helpers
  • Overview of camp schedule and expectations

6th-8th Grade: On the field – Warm-Up, Dynamic Stretching/Agilities

  • Break campers into manageable groups
  • Group warm-up led by coaches: Stretching and Agilities
    • Emphasis on mobility, hip flexibility and injury prevention

9th-12th Grade: In theater – Keynote speaker

  • Keynote Speaker – NIKE Pro Josh Thompson

Drills: 2 Groups – 20 minutes each

    • Group 1
      • Arm Position and Arm Swing Drills
    • Group 2
      • Leg Drive and Toe up Drills

Partner up and grab a strap

  • Static stretching and cooldown
  • Group discussion about the day’s activities and what they learned
Day 2

Event Specialization

9:00 - 9:50 AM: Keynote Speaker Josh Thompson (In Theater)

Emphasis on mobility, hip flexibility and injury prevention

  • Drills: Hurdle approaches and rhythm drills
  • Practice: Timing and technique for running hurdles
  • Long/Triple Jump: Approach and takeoff techniques
  • Shot/Discus: Grip and release mechanics (if 12+ campers sign up)
  • High Jump: Approach and jumping techniques
  • Distance pacing and race strategy for the 800m and 1500m
  • Resistance Training w/straps (or comparable drill)
  • Practice a few laps focusing on pacing

Block starts

  • Stretching and discussing about the day’s experiences
Day 3

Event Specialization and Wrap-Up

9:00 - 9:40 AM: Warm-Up and Dynamic Stretching (Agilities)
  • Sprinters: Acceleration Drills w/200M Block Starts
  • Distance: Discuss pacing and race strategy for the 1600m and 3200m

Recognition of participants’ efforts and highlights from the camp

Daily Schedules: Elementary School ages 6-11

Attention Parents: Participants will need to bring their own water bottles and their own snacks to the camp. Water stations will be provided to refill water bottles if needed.
Day 1

Sprint Mechanics & Middle Distance

9:00 AM – 9:45 AM: Welcome & Dynamic Warm-Up
  • Fun stretches (animal walks, arm circles, hip rotations)
  • High knees, butt kicks, skipping variations
  • Tag game for warm-up excitement
  • Pacing strategies (jog-sprint intervals)
  • Endurance-building relay games
  • Breathing techniques
  • Posture and arm movement drills
  • Acceleration drills (knee drive exercises)
  • Short sprints on soft grass with feedback
  • Partner resistance drills with straps
  • Partner baton passing drills
  • Short team relays (with emphasis on fun over speed)

Day 2

Field Event Fundamentals

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Warm-Up Games & Dynamic Stretching
  • Relay warm-up games
  • Dynamic drills: lateral lunges, leg swings, skipping

Long Jump 

  • Proper take-off and landing techniques
  • One-step jump practice into the sand pit
  • Friendly long jump jump challenges

Hydration Break (5 min)

High Jump Fundamentals

  • Proper take-off and landing techniques
  • The approach – running the J

Shot Put 

  • Focus on form: stance and release techniques
  • Use soft foam implements for safety
  • Target-based throwing games

Mini Javelin

  • Focus on form: stance and release techniques
  • Target-based throwing games

Crazy relays

  • Gentle stretches
  • Key takeaway discussion on pacing and throwing
Day 3

Speed Meet: Races, Sprint Relays, & Fun Field Games

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Warm-Up & Game
  • Dynamic stretches and light jogging
    • Big game of Sharks and Minnows
  • Kids participate in short races, relays, long jump, high jump, and throwing events
  • Round Robin Schedule – Kids are put into groups by age
  • 60M (6 & 7 yr olds)
  • 100M (8-11 yr olds)

  • Low bar challenges
